When Vaarnii began exploring the use of pine in lighting design, it quickly became clear that Hans-Agne Jakobsson's iconic 1960s pendants could not be surpassed. The pine is used effectively - its tone and grain pattern are fully exploited in designs that exude material heaviness but are in reality light.
Characteristic of the lamp - Lamps from the Hans series are made in Finland with an internal structure in solid pine and an external surface in the finest pine veneer. As each lamp is handmade from natural materials, there will be variations in symmetry, making each Hans lamp completely unique.
Pine is a wood with great character. Due to its natural oils and resins, pine changes color over time. Vaarnii uses both heartwood and sapwood from pine, which mature at different rates. This creates a beautiful, striped surface that is a temporary phase and should be enjoyed while it lasts.
Over time, your Vaarnii pine product will take on a more uniform and warm honey-colored tone - a natural and beautiful aging process that occurs over several years.
