The warm glow filtered through pine veneer, combined with a simple and graphic form, characterizes the iconic designs of Hans-Agne Jakobsson.
When Vaarnii began working with pine in lighting, it became clear that Jakobsson's pendants from the 1960s set a standard that could not be surpassed. Pine is used with great respect for the material's natural tone and grain, creating an expression that feels both solid and light at the same time.
The Hans series is produced in Finland with an internal structure of solid pine and an exterior of fine pine veneer. Each lamp is handmade from natural materials, and small variations in symmetry and surface make each product unique.
Pine is a living material where natural oils and resin cause the wood to change colour over time. Vaarnii uses both heartwood and sapwood, which mature differently and create a beautiful, striped surface that will gradually develop into a more uniform, warm honey-coloured tone.
