Sakura Copenhagen is holding a cozy and informal Kintsugi workshop where you will learn the basics of the traditional Japanese 'kintsugi technique' - a meaningful method of repairing broken ceramics with gold, silver or bronze-colored glue.

Kintsugi stems from the Japanese Wabi-Sabi philosophy, which celebrates imperfection and sees beauty in what has been broken. When ceramics are reassembled, the cracks are highlighted rather than hidden – and the new becomes beautiful in a new way.

The technique is not only beautiful and symbolic, but also sustainable. By repairing instead of discarding, kintsugi helps break with the buy-and-throw-away culture and extends the life of what we already have and love. It is good for both the environment and for awareness of the value of what exists.

In the workshop, our instructor will tell you more about the history behind kintsugi. All participants will have the opportunity to try out the kintsugi set and become comfortable with the craft when different parts are glued together. You can ask questions along the way, and we are happy to help.

The workshop includes an optional kintsugi repair kit (value 249 dkk) in either gold, silver or bronze, and one optional piece of broken pottery. Additional pottery can be purchased. All pottery may be taken home after the workshop.

The workshop is cozy, practical and informal. It is held in Sakura Social's inspiring, new premises at Gammel Kongevej 91C. It lasts about 1.5 hours, and we serve coffee, tea and snacks. Everyone can participate - no previous experience is required, only the desire to be creative and present in the moment.
