Kōyō plate with brown spots
Kōyō means "autumn leaves" in Japanese and symbolizes the beauty of change – a thought beautifully reflected in this handmade, deep plate with its warm white (beige) glaze and fine brown flecks. The rounded shape and vibrant surface give the plate an organic and sensual expression.
The pattern is created by hand with a seashell – a traditional technique that Japanese ceramicist Mr. Takashi has made his own. The brown nits occur naturally during firing and help make each plate completely unique.
Mr. Takashi's designs are inspired by the shapes and materials of nature. He works with great care and attention, which is why both colors and shapes vary from piece to piece - everything is created by hand and bears the mark of the living process.
The Kōyō series is specially made for Sakura Copenhagen, and we are proud to be the only dealer in Denmark of Mr. Takashi's unique ceramics. The series can be mixed and matched across glazes and structures for a vibrant, personal expression.
Please note: The plate is handmade and may therefore vary slightly in size.
