Traditional, hand-painted koinobori on heavy Japanese washi paper.

The koi fish is hand-painted in a small paper factory in Japan – one of the few places where they are still made. A limited number of koi fish are made each year in connection with Children's Day on May 5th in Japan.

In Japanese culture, the koi fish symbolizes strength and perseverance. It is associated with the ability to swim against the current and the will to keep moving forward, even when there is resistance.

Koinobori are traditionally hung outdoors, where the wind fills the fish and brings them to life. They are put up as a wish that children may grow up healthy, strong, and brave.

A light and lively decoration with roots in Japanese tradition and a quiet reminder of inner strength.
