(price)Tokyo Jazz Joints
This book takes the reader into Japan's unique jazz culture through the so-called jazz kissaten - small cafés and bars where people listen to jazz on vinyl and enjoy the music over a cup of coffee or a drink. The book documents these atmospheric places, which are slowly disappearing from the cityscape today.
Through photographs and stories, a number of iconic jazz venues across Japan are presented, including in Tokyo, Kyoto, Yokohama, and Iwate. Here you will find both legendary bars and hidden gems where the passion for jazz still lives on.
The project was created by photographer Philip Arneill together with author and radio host James Catchpole. The book was first published in 2023 and is presented here in a Japanese edition with new content.
