Vaarnii - 001 Stool Black
001 Stool by Fredrik Paulsen is simple, immediate, and robust. Like the dining tables and chairs that came before it, Paulsen has created a comfortable, archetypal design. Although the stool is the smallest element in the 001 series, it does not compromise on the powerful appearance that characterises the series' other furniture. The generous dimensions of the wood are fully utilised, creating a solid and reliable piece of furniture. Nevertheless, the 001 is light enough to be easily moved around - as Paulsen clearly intended to design a practical seating option for everyday life.
The stool is treated with a deep, black stain, unique to Vaarnii. This treatment allows the characteristic beautiful grain of the pine to remain visible. A small, yet distinctive wooden stool, made in Finland from Finnish pine.
A characteristic of pine wood is that it becomes more beautiful with age. The colours mature and gain a deeper glow. Heartwood and sapwood age at different rates, highlighting the wood's natural grain patterns. After a few years, the pine in each stool will develop a rich and complex honey-coloured tone.
Pine is a soft wood and will develop marks and indentations over time. But don't see them as flaws – embrace them. They are signs of life and of furniture that has been used and loved. Pine is not life-resistant. It is proof of life.
