Vaarniis' 002 Ast wooden stool, designed by Dimitri Bähler, is characterized by an unpretentious design that combines the rustic with the modern.
The small stool is made from thick, sturdy pieces of pine, with the only decorative elements being the softly rounded edges, knots and vibrant grain that is typical of pine.
The name " Ast" is German and means “branch” - a reference to the knots that highlight the strength of this often overlooked material.
In addition to serving as extra seating, Ast can also be used as a bedside table or side table.
Characteristic of the wood - Pine becomes more beautiful with age. The colors mature and take on a deeper glow. Heartwood and sapwood age at different rates, highlighting the natural grain patterns of the wood. After a few years, the pine in each stool will develop a rich and complex honey-colored tone.
Pine is a soft wood and will eventually develop marks and impressions. But don't see them as flaws - embrace them. They are signs of life and of furniture that has been used and loved. Pine is not life-resistant. It is proof of life.
