Vaarnii - 002 Ast Stool
The Vaarnii 002 Ast pine stool, designed by Dimitri Bähler, is characterized by an unpretentious design that unites the rustic with the modern.
The small stool is made from thick, robust pieces of pine, with the only decorative elements being the softly rounded edges, as well as the knots and vibrant grain, which are typical of pine.
The name Ast is German and means branch – a reference to the knots that highlight the strength of this often overlooked material. In addition to serving as extra seating, Ast can also be used as a bedside table or side table.
Characteristic of pine is that it becomes more beautiful with age. The colors mature and gain a deeper glow. Heartwood and sapwood age at different rates, highlighting the wood's natural grain patterns. After a few years, the pine in each chair will develop a rich and complex honey-colored tone.
Pine is a soft wood and will develop marks and indentations over time. But don't see them as flaws – embrace them. They are signs of life and of furniture that has been used and loved. Pine is not life-resistant. It is proof of life.
