The warm glow filtered through pine veneer, combined with a simple and graphic form, is at the core of the iconic designs by Hans-Agne Jakobsson, which continue to have a timeless appeal.
When Vaarnii began working with pine in lighting, it quickly became clear that Jakobsson's pendants from the 1960s still represent an unsurpassed reference point. Pine is used with great precision, where tone and grain are highlighted in an expression that feels solid and material – yet lightweight.
The Hans series is manufactured in Finland with an internal structure of solid pine wood and an exterior of fine pine veneer. Each lamp is handmade from natural materials, which results in small variations in symmetry and surface, making each product unique.
Pine is a living material that changes character over time due to natural oils and resin. Vaarnii uses both heartwood and sapwood, which mature differently and create a temporary, striped surface that gradually develops.
Over time, the product acquires a more uniform, warm honey-colored tone as part of a natural and beautiful aging process.
