Sashiko workshop with Ida Kleist for beginners
Learn Japanese Sashiko embroidery with Ida Kleist!
Come down to our store for a creative workshop where you can try your hand at the traditional Japanese sewing technique, sashiko, in the company of Ida Kleist as instructor. Ida Kleist runs Ida Kleist Studio, which produces and sells embroidered textiles.
In this workshop we will delve into sashiko - a Japanese sewing technique where several pieces of fabric are traditionally sewn together to repair and reinforce clothing and home textiles. Today, the technique is often used as decoration on clothing and home textiles.
There are different groups of patterns within sashiko. We will sew what is called hitomezashi (one-stitch sashiko) in Japanese, where you sew according to a grid drawn on the fabric. The focus will be on how to sew two pieces of fabric together, so that you get one thick piece with a decorative pattern on the front and a beautiful back without visible stitching.
We will sew a coaster that can be used under cups, jugs or glasses. Along the way we will also talk a little about the history of sashiko embroidery and Japanese tea and snacks will be served.
Location: Sakura Social, Gammel Kongevej 91C, 1850 Frederiksberg.
