Sashiko workshop with Ida Kleist for beginners
Learn Japanese Sashiko Embroidery with Ida Kleist
In this workshop, you will be introduced to the Japanese embroidery technique 'sashiko' with Ida Kleist as your instructor.
Sashiko means small stitches, and there are two styles within sashiko. In this workshop, you will learn to embroider the technique called hitomezashi, which is sewn according to a grid drawn on the fabric. We will sew a coaster that can, for example, be used under cups, pitchers, or glasses.
In the workshop, we will discuss material choices, the history of sashiko embroidery, and its various applications. Ida is, among other things, very well-known for her beautiful tea cozies and jackets.
