When Vaarnii began exploring the use of pine in lighting design, it quickly became clear that Hans-Agne Jakobsson’s iconic pendants from the 1960s could not be surpassed. Pine is used effectively – its tone and grain pattern are fully utilized in designs that exude material weight but are in fact light.

A characteristic of pine is that it becomes more beautiful with age. The colors mature and develop a deeper glow. Heartwood and sapwood age at different rates, highlighting the wood's natural grain patterns. After a few years, the pine in each chair will develop a rich and complex honey-colored tone.

Pine is a soft wood and will acquire marks and dents over time. But do not see them as flaws – embrace them. They are signs of life and of furniture that has been used and loved. Pine is not immune to life. It is proof of life.
